Why We Belong To NAM

The Control Systems Group is a member of the National Association of Manufacturers because we believe it is essential to be active in preserving our future and the future of our corporate customers. The NAM's mission is to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturers and to improve American living standards by shaping a legislative and regulatory environment conducive to U.S. economic growth, and to increase understanding among policymakers, the media and the public about the importance of manufacturing to America's economic strength. The NAM is the nation's largest industrial trade association. The NAM has established a 'Campaign for Growth and Manufacturing Renewal' to focus the nation's attention on manufacturing and its contributions to overall economic growth and prosperity.

The National Electrical Code

We will build and install to NEC standards, unless superseded by your plant specifications. NFPA 70, National Electric CodeŽ is considered to be the blueprint for electrical safety throughout the world. The NEC focuses on the proper installation of electrical systems and equipment to protect people and property from the potential dangers of electricity.

The National Fire Protection Association

The mission of the international nonprofit NFPA is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating scientifically-based consensus codes and standards, research, training and education.

Six Sigma

Why Six Sigma?

There are two reasons we subscribe to the Six Sigma movement. The first is that it becomes a guiding philosophy in designing systems for our clients. A factory automation system that must deliver measurable, continuous improvements needs to provide for insight into the process by means of collection of critical data. The second is that Six Sigma will drive performance improvements in all aspects of our own operations, from sales to design to customer service.

What is Six Sigma?

Here is Jim Panella's 30-second 'elevator speech' summarizing the purpose of Six Sigma.

'Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach to process improvement aimed at the near-elimination of defects from every product, process, and transaction. The purpose of Six Sigma is to gain breakthrough knowledge on how to improve processes to do things BETTER, FASTER, and at LOWER COST. It can be used to improve every facet of business, from production, to human resources, to order entry, to technical support. Six Sigma can be used for any activity that is concerned with cost, timeliness, and quality of results. Unlike previous quality improvement efforts, Six Sigma is designed to provide tangible business results, cost savings that are directly traceable to the bottom line.'

Note that Six Sigma makes use of metrics unlike anything ever used before. These metrics not only tie in customer Critical to Quality (CTQ) needs with what is measured by the company, but they also allow processes within the company to be compared with each other using a single scale called DPMO (Defects Per Million Opportunities).
